Wherever you are, at sea, on land, the Ocean Signal PLB1 provides the reassurance that global emergency services can be alerted by the press of a button.

The Ocean Signal rescueMe PLB1 can be operated with a single hand in even the most challenging situations. A simple spring loaded flap covers the activation button preventing inadvertent use.

Ocean Signal PLB1 works with the only officially recognised worldwide dedicated search and rescue satellite network (operated by Cospas Sarsat). As this is funded by governments there are NO CHARGES to use this service.

When activated the Ocean Signal PLB1 transmits your position and your ID to a Rescue Coordination Center via satellite link. Rescue services nearest to your are promptly notified of your emergency and regularly advised of your current location to assist prompt rescue.

The Ocean Signal PLB1 has an optional flotation pouch** to enable it to float. Please note that the Ocean Signal PLB1 will not float in an operating position in the pouch. Please ensure the PLB1 is firmly attached to the pouch with the provided lanyard, using suitable self locking knots.

PLEASE NOTE: Product is programmed to be registered with UK authorities. If the beacon needs to be registered in different country, please contact us for a quote for reprogramming before ordering.

Ocean Signal shall not be liable to the buyer under the above warranty:

•    for any repairs or modifications carried out on the product using parts that are not supplied
or approved by the manufacturer Ocean Signal including batteries and for work carried out
other than by Ocean Signal or approved service dealers,
•    for any part, material or accessory that is not manufactured by Ocean Signal, the consumer
will be covered by the guarantee / warranty offered to Ocean Signal by the manufacturer or
supplier of such a component,
•    for product which has not been fully paid for,
•    for any product supplied by Ocean Signal to a customer under an alternative warranty or
commercial agreement,
•    for the cost of shipping product to and from the customer.
•    The Battery is only warranted until the date of expiry and provided the unit is tested in accordance
with the information in the user manual as noted by the electronic witness stored within the product.

The following specific item is excluded from this warranty:

•    Damage to the antenna

Q. What is the Ocean Signal PLB1 and who should use it?

A. The Ocean Signal rescueME PLB1 is a compact, waterproof personal locator beacon designed for UK mariners, adventurers, and outdoor enthusiasts. It transmits emergency alerts via satellite to global rescue services, making it ideal for solo sailors, kayakers, hikers, and offshore workers.

Q. How does the PLB1 communicate with rescue authorities?

A. Once activated, the PLB1 transmits a 406 MHz distress signal with your GPS location to the Cospas-Sarsat satellite network. It also transmits 121.5 MHz homing signal to aid local search and rescue teams. This dual-frequency system ensures rapid detection and accurate location tracking worldwide.

Q. Does the PLB1 include GPS for precise positioning?

A. Yes. The PLB1 features a 66-channel GPS receiver that quickly acquires your position and embeds it in the distress signal. This enables rescuers to locate you within 100 metres accuracy, significantly improving response time.

Q. Is the PLB1 waterproof and does it float?

A. The PLB1 is waterproof to 15 metres (IPX7) and can be used in marine environments. However, it does not float unless fitted with the optional flotation pouch. For UK users, this pouch is available separately and recommended for lifejacket integration.

Q. Can I attach the PLB1 to my lifejacket or clothing?

A. Absolutely. The PLB1 includes a unique mounting clip and lanyard for secure attachment to lifejackets, belts, or backpacks. Always follow your lifejacket manufacturer's guidelines for safe installation.

Q. What is the battery life and replacement policy?

A. 7-year battery shelf life and 24+ hours operational life once activated. Battery replacement must be done by an authorised Ocean Signal service centre. The PLB1 includes a 2-year warranty, extendable to 5 years upon registration.

Q. Can I test the PLB1 without triggering a false alert?

A. Yes. The PLB1 supports: Beacon test (monthly recommended), GPS test (limited to 10 times over battery life). These tests confirm functionality without transmitting a distress signal. Always follow the user manual to avoid accidental activation.

Q. Can I carry the PLB1 on a commercial flight?

A. Yes. The PLB1 complies with IATA Dangerous Goods Regulations and can be carried in checked or hand luggage. Its lithium battery is under the 2g threshold and tested to UN standards. Ensure it's protected from accidental activation during travel.

Q. Do I need to register the PLB1 in the UK?

A. Yes. UK law requires registration of all PLBs with the Maritime & Coastguard Agency (MCA). Registration links your beacon's unique ID to your contact and emergency details, speeding up rescue efforts. You can register online at gov.uk.
