STANDARD GX1700E GPS/DSC FIXED VHF
The Standard Horizon GX1700E Explorer GPS DSC features a 12-Channel internal GPS antenna built in to the front panel. This makes this stylish and intuitive set a world first, as other sets require connection to an external GPS feed to utilise Digital Selective Calling (DSC) facilities.
The result is a remarkably compact set that is ready to go ‘out of the box’ and at only 3.5in in depth - half that of most competitors’ comparable sets on the market - it is very easy to mount, either in a surface bracket or flush mounted into a console. The built-in GPS antenna allows for easy and quick installation and removal. The GX1700E can also output the GPS data to any compatible NMEA 0183 equipment.
Should you wish to install the GX1700E in a position where a fix from the internal antenna is not possible, an external GPS feed can be connected, as with other Standard Horizon fixed VHF sets.
The GX1700E embodies Standard Horizon’s proven design philosophy for ease of use with a high degree of functionality. The set has a big, bold backlit display, with the brightness and contrast fully adjustable. An optional CMP30B remote microphone (RAM mic) can be attached, replicating all the key functions and providing a complete second station on board. The RAM also acts as an internal intercom. In addition, Clearvoice noise reduction technology eliminates the intrusion of background interference from engines or wind to ensure crystal clear communication.
The ITU-R M493-11 Class D DSC functionality allows DSC alerts to be received on Channel 70 even whilst listening to voice communications. Apart from the vital functions of a dedicated distress button, dual watch and priority scan, the GX1700E also has programmable scan, and a programmable channel naming function.
The embedded GPS allows a variety of useful functions, such as the ability to save up to 100 waypoints. These can be selected and used with a unique navigation compass display showing speed over ground (SOG) course over ground (COG), bearing and distance to the waypoint.
Position polling is quickly and easily achieved via the intuitive menu. Position information can be both requested from, and sent to, any vessel whose MMSI number is known, a particularly useful function for yachts sailing in company. The GX1700E can be set up to automatically poll the positions of up to four stations, and thanks to an NMEA two-wire connection, positions received from a DSC distress alert or a position polling request can be shown graphically on a compatible GPS chart plotter.
Ruggedly built on a die-cast chassis, the GX1700E Explorer is waterproof to IPX8 standards (fully submersible to 1.5 metres for 30 minutes) and carries Standard Horizon’s three-year no quibble waterproofing guarantee.
